Planning for change
Older age is a positive growth phase of life like any other. To age positively means welcoming the opportunities of older age, while acknowledging the realities.
Age Concern's Ageing is Living publications examine ageing and common myths, explore changing needs as baby boomer generations age, offer ways to plan and think ahead, explore challenges such as change, loss or depression, and identify strategies for positive ageing.
It requires the resilience and courage to accept change in oneself and in the world around us.
Positive ageing is enhanced in a society where the rights and responsibilities of older people are acknowledged. Older people should be free to choose their level of involvement in work, community service, recreation and education.
"Positive ageing is not about how to live longer nor how to avoid growing old.
It is about celebrating older age."
Our attitudes, our level of activity and support, and our social, cultural and economic environment influence our ability to age well.
