Gosh Peter, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. You are entitled to these free fares whether it's just to the local mall or to Waiheke Island. Go for it and enjoy yourself. There's no way I object to my taxes paying for such a thing and when my turn comes I'll be using it too. :)

I don't think that using this sysyem is abuse

I think probably the tax

I think probably the tax payers are paying for this, but as a 40-something year old tax payer I am happy to apy for this. I think in NZ we do not value our senior citizens enough. After many years of supporting and growing the country, this is the least we can do for you older people. Enjoy it!

Have you noticed that

Have you noticed that Auckland gets a better offer? They have free off peak travel from 9am right through to midnight. Can't the others do this too?

I think that this free

I think that this free facility is fantastic and will take full advantage of it when the weather improves. I have a small concern however. Who is actually paying for all these free trips? I'm sure it's not the service providers such as Ritchies. If it's the rate payers or the tax payers could we seniors be abusing the system by tripping off on a whim to such places as Waiheke Island and Orewa?
